KofC Long Island Chapter Memorial Mass
Every year the Long Island Chapter hosts a Memorial Mass for all deceased members of the Knights of Columbus within Brooklyn and Queens. All Brother Knights, Sister Columbiettes, families, families of the deceased and all Parishioners are cordially invited to attend the Long Island Chapter Annual Memorial Mass to be celebrated by a Bishop of Brooklyn and Queens, on Friday, April 17,2020 at Sacred Heart of Jesus R. C. Church at 215-35 38th Ave. Bayside, NY 11361.
During the celebration of Mass, we will be reading the names of deceased members during the past year. I am asking every Grand Knight or Columbiette President to fill out the enclosed form with the names of their council’s deceased members and return it in the enclosed envelope no later than March 23 2020. If your council did not sustain a loss of a member within the year, we ask you to make every effort to attend the Mass. The loss of” member withi11 the long lsla11d Chapter is a Joss to all of us. We should all be prese11t to pray for them a11d their families. During Mass we will also be taking up a collection as an offertory to the Bishop for a charity of his decision.
After Mass, we will gather in the in the School Basement for some light refreshments and to celebrate our deceased member’s lives. I am asking every Grand Knight or Columbiette President in Brooklyn and Queens to invite your council’s Chaplain, Parish Priest, Deacons and any seminarians and to let me if they will be able to participate. If they are attending, we are asking them to concelebrate with the Bishop at the Mass so please advise them of this. This will allow us to arrange an orderly program and provide the proper amount of refreshments.
Brother Grand Knights, District Deputies, Columbiette Presidents, Conference Officers, Chapter Officers and Columbian Squires; let us show our love for our departed members by recognizing them at their Memorial Mass. Please publicize this occasion and urge our Brother Knights, Sister Columbiettes, families and friends to attend. Thomas Dongan Council #1251 Free Throw Competition
The Knights of Columbus from Thomas Dongan Council 1251 in Bay Ridge Brooklyn will host a Free Throw Competition on Saturday, January 18, at St. Patrick’s School Gym.
St Patrick School – 401 97th St, Brooklyn, New York 11209
Free Registration will start at 11:45 AM and competition will start at 12:15 PM. This event is open to all girls and boys 9 to 14 years of age as of January 1, 2020. An adult’s signature will be accepted as proof of age at this initial competition level. However, proof of age (birth certificate) will be required for each winner progressing to the next level.
Each participant will compete in their respective age and gender division. All contestants on the Council level will receive certificates for their participation in the event. Champions will receive metals for their respective age division.
Winners of each division will be invited to participate in the next level which will be two or three weeks later. The competition levels are District, Regional, and State.
Free Registration and permission by an adult is required. All competitors must use the official Knights of Columbus form available the day of the event. Any questions please feel free to contact Connor O’Mara at (917) 208-7022

December Meeting Schedule 2019
As decided by membership, we will have 1 meeting in the month of December, to be held on the 11th. We will not have a meeting on the 24th.
First Degree
On Saturday, 11/23, Thomas Dongan held it a First Degree in our quarters. The degree team was comprised of all Officers of Thomas Dongan Council who worked diligently to insure that they degree was a success. We installed 7 new first degree members from Thomas Dongan and 1 from Christopher Council. I want to thank the degree team, Chad Johnson DGK, Steve Kulaka Chancellor, Rich Hayes Financial Secretary, Thomas Mohan Warden and Connor O’Mara PGK for all their hard work. I also want to thank the members in attendance for insuring we had a good showing for our new members. I also want to send out a congratulations and welcome to our new members!

2019 Grand Knight’s Message
Brothers and Friends,
As we head into the 2019 Holiday Season, I want to take this time to wish everyone and their families a Happy Thanksgiving, and a joyous, safe and very Merry Christmas!
2019 has been a productive one for our Council. We have been able to renew our lease with the new owner of the building, we will be holding the first ceremonial of our order in our current quarters and have begun the steps to refurbish our headquarters.
The Annual John Maloney Golf Outing, our largest charity event, supporting 2 scholarships at Cathedral Prep and funds for Wheelchairs for Warriors, was once again a great success! Thank you all for your support and I wish to once again thank Richie O’Mara and Liz and Jere Gatti and the Golf Committee for all of their work in making sure this event is a success each and every year.
We continue our efforts in collecting food for our annual food drive, a thank you goes to organizer, Matt Keough for his efforts each year. I also wish to thank Ronnie Gorton Jr. for organizing our book drive for Veterans. We are finishing the second year and continue to request your support for reading materials. We also launched an additional fundraising event for Wheelchairs for Warriors just this year, stop by on any Saturday night to participate.
We will be hosting a paint party on Saturday December 7th at the Council, along with a drive to support Toys for Tots a thank you to Pat and Pete DeNicola for organizing. See the bartenders for information on the Paint Party, and bring a toy into the council on December 7th for the toy drive. We will exchange a refreshment for a toy to support such as worthy cause.
Our annual Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 14th at the Council, a thank you to Jere and Liz Gatti for organizing once again what promises to be a splendid affair. Please see the bartenders to sign up, as we all know it does sell out so get your requests in early.
Planning is already underway for activities and functions for 2020. We will have our Superbowl party and our annual Free-Throw Championship on January 18th at St. Patrick’s gym from noon to 1:30pm. Members continue bowling on Tuesdays in the bowling league and we are working to add more content and information to this WebSite, a thank you to Vin Campbell for organizing. If you have content, please share and we will post it.
I want to thank the officers of the club, who were recently were installed at a ceremony at Our Lady of Angels Church, and an affair back at the Council, for all their help this year and that which will be needed going into 2020.

November Meeting Schedule
As Decided by membership at our November 13th meeting, we will hold 1 meeting only in December. The meeting scheduled for December 24th will be cancelled. We will hold our regular schedule meeting on the 4th Wednesday in November on the 27th.
